Kingdom of Marionettes browser loading and save help
If the game does not start in the page, open the same browser build directly. If a save is missing, first check which browser, profile, and game page you used before. Back up a working save before changing browser data.
Quick diagnosis
- The page frame stays blank: use the direct game link above. It opens the same game URL outside this site's embedded frame.
- The game loader appears but progress stops: give the first download time to finish, then retry in a current browser with a stable connection. Ren'Py's web build downloads game files before play.
- The game starts but old saves are absent: check the original browser and profile before clearing site data or reinstalling anything. If the old game still opens, export saves there first.
The player on this fan site embeds a game hosted at s.kingdomofmarionettes.net. The direct link uses that same address, but browser storage rules for embedded frames can differ. A save visible in one view is not guaranteed to appear in the other.
When the browser game will not load
- Open the direct game page. If it works, you can play there without the surrounding fan-site frame.
- Wait for the game's own loading bar. The fan site's “Opening the game” message only detects when the embedded page loads; it cannot confirm that the game archive has finished downloading.
- If the direct page also fails, try an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, and allow WebAssembly and browser storage for the game page. Ren'Py says its web build depends on modern browser features.
- Try a normal browser window if private browsing is involved. If a browser extension or strict tracking setting blocks the page, test with that setting disabled for the game origin.
- Only after backing up any accessible saves, consider clearing stored data for the game origin. Clearing site data can remove saves and is a last resort.
On mobile, the homepage player also offers a “Play in a separate tab” link below the frame. A desktop download is available from the creator's game page if browser play remains unreliable.
How to protect a browser save
- Use the game's own Save menu to create a named slot at a point you want to revisit. A browser tab left open is not a backup.
- In the web player's top-left ≡ menu, look for Export Saves. Ren'Py documents this option as a ZIP download containing saves and persistent data. Keep that file somewhere you can find it.
- In another browser or profile, open the game and use Import Saves from the same menu to select the exported ZIP. Check a slot in the game's Load screen before relying on it.
- Keep the original browser/profile and the exported ZIP until you have confirmed the imported save works. Ren'Py notes that compatibility across game releases is not guaranteed.
The local web package used to check this guide contains Ren'Py's Import Saves and Export Saves menu items. If a later live build changes that menu, follow its visible controls and the Ren'Py web documentation.
Why a save can seem to disappear
| What changed? | What to check |
|---|---|
| Browser or device | Open the browser and profile where you played before. Browser saves do not automatically follow a different device; use Export Saves and Import Saves when available. |
| Embedded player versus direct tab | Try the view you used originally. Both links point to the game host, but some browsers partition embedded storage. |
| Private window or cleared site data | Check whether your normal profile still has the slot. Private sessions and data removal can affect local saves. |
| Different game release | Check the build and slot list. Ren'Py warns that save compatibility between releases is not guaranteed; keep an exported backup before updating. |
Browser play questions
Does opening the game in a new tab always keep my embedded save?
No guarantee. The URL is the same game host, but browsers can treat storage in embedded frames differently. Export from the view where your save still appears before switching.
Will clearing cache fix loading without touching saves?
Browser controls differ. Some “clear site data” actions delete game storage as well as cached files. Export saves first if the game still opens anywhere.
Is the browser version the same as the Android download?
No. This page concerns the current browser player. For platform and Act 2 status, see the dated release tracker and the creator's download page.
Sources and scope: The embedded and direct game URLs are taken from this fan site's player. Save export/import, web loading requirements, and browser support are described in Ren'Py's Web documentation; release save compatibility is covered in its save documentation. The creator's game page supplies desktop downloads. This is an independent troubleshooting guide, not a guarantee that a lost save can be recovered.
